The amazing Pebble Beach annual event has been underway this week. The world renowned golf course in California hosts one of the miss interesting car shows you’ll find the whole year round, and what a setting it is for one. Through out this weekend you’ll have been able to see car auctions (not like the type you may find locally, there’s an Aston Martin going for around £20,000,000), car chat with Jerry Seinfeld and the famous Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance. It’s not difficult to figure out why the event is so popular, what it may be hard to do is find the funds to attend, with general admission tickets coming in at a nice $375.
The Tour d’Elegance on Thursday went something like this:
7:00 am Cars line up on Portola Road in Pebble Beach
9:00 am Tour departs
11:30 am Tour arrives in Carmel-by-the-Sea
12 noon Cars are displayed on Ocean Avenue
2:00 pm Tour returns to Pebble Beach
3:00 pm Concluding Champagne toast for participants
This 5 hour long tour consists of some of the rarest and most pristine classic cars. Their owners take paying guests on a winding drive on the coast of California. If you’re somewhere along the route or the areas where cars stop for a break, you can enjoy the sights for free, many do.
The Concourse d’Elegance today will host 200 of the planets most prestigious collector cars, of course on the 18th hole of the course. Don’t forget though, these cars have come for the competition and these are some of the awards up for grabs:
American Dream Cars of the 1960s
Ferrari Major Race Winners
Ferrari One-off Spéciales
Quoted from the website, “The Concours is not a contest of speed, but of elegance. Automobiles and motorcycles are judged for their historical accuracy, their technical merit and their style—and the best garner reward and recognition.” this really is the creme de la creme for ‘classic’ cars.
