Your guide to Silverstone Classic

Screen Shot 2017-07-28 at 14.25.40

The world’s biggest classic motor racing festival is here once again; a weekend packed full of incredible shows, world famous racing circuits and historic motor racing, featuring more than 10,000 classic cars over the weekend, including live music, air displays and a shopping village. Of course, like Goodwood Festival of Speed, it’s impossible to catch everything over the weekend and you’ll inevitably be missing out on something… so, we’ve rounded up the best bits of the weekend for you, so you can enjoy yourself to the fullest.

Retro run

A road run for classic cars (pre-1997), starting on Saturday morning, running from Stowe House, covering a 110-mile route, which of course, has been specially selected to provide an invigorating driving experience, before reaching the final destination where all the cars taking part are parked for display, with crowds of gawkers crowding around by the end. This is a great opportunity for you to wander around the great motors of the historic years, whilst getting to gain information from their owners about the cars themselves, how they drive and the great nostalgic stories that so often come from classic car owners.

Live Demos

It wouldn’t be a car show without live demos, surely? As always, these are a big hit with the audience, this year, you can expect to see a high-speed demonstration from Williams FW14B, World GP bike legends, plane demos and the widely anticipated streetcar shootout; recreating a drag strip race, including rigs from the trucking world and British Hot Rods. On top of all of this, we see the introduction of the Nick and Nigel race team, Red Neck Racing, from the Street Eliminator race series which boasts the fastest street car series in Europe. A bigger, better display this year, prepare yourselves for the magic!

Air Displays

With the Silverstone circuit being based on a WW2 airfield, it would only be right to include some spectacular air displays over this motor fuelled weekend. The Gazelle Squadron will be providing a display to alight the senses in a two aircraft flying display, followed by the stunning pyrotechnic displays from the Twister Aerobatics, who will be performing amongst the nighttime glow to ensure maximum effect.

The races, the integral part of this momentous festival. The world’s largest classic motor racing festival features the creme de la creme of historic racing, from Sports cars, Formula One, GT and Touring Car grids. With qualifying taking place on Friday and the weekend days packed to the brim with race after race. From FIA Masters Historic F1, Formula Ford 50, The Jaguar Classic challenge and Pre ’63 GT cars, be sure to catch as many races as possible.

Live Music

The weekend wouldn’t be complete without some classic music alongside classic cars, of course. With the Bootleg Beatles (Tribute) taking centre stage on Friday evening, belting out #1 classics to bring you back to the nostalgic summer of love. Saturday evening is taking you back to the 80’s with the incredible Spandau Ballet’s former frontman Tony Hadley giving it his all, followed by The Dire Straits Experience. Timeless hits will be floating through the air all weekend long, be sure not to miss out.

Are you excited for such an engine packed weekend, guaranteed to ignite the racer inside? We are! We look forward to seeing you there and hope you enjoy Silverstone as much we do every year.
